The location of Ligaria could not be more convenient. This holiday resort is located between Agia Pelagia and Ammoudi. It is just 20 minutes northwest of Heraklion town. The east-facing bay is sheltered from the northwest winds that the north coast of Crete often experiences.
In the village Ligaria you can find many taverns, offering traditional but also international dishes, bars, cafes.
Very close to Ligaria are also the following resorts and the most beautiful beaches of Heraklion: Agia Pelagia bay (main beach – and the busiest), Mononaftis bay, Kladissos bay, Made beach, Psaromoura beach, Fylakes beach, Ammoudi. Though there are several (little, almost hidden) beaches in the area (many of which can be reached only by feet or by boat).
Agia Pelagia, as mentioned above, is one of the most beautiful and busiest summer resorts in Crete and specifically in the Prefecture of Heraklion. You can find many taverns with traditional and international dishes, bars, cafes and various shops such as pharmacies, supermarkets, etc. It is 30 minutes from the city of Heraklion, and just 20 minutes from Villa Ourania.
Within a radius of 35-50 km you will find several interesting places to visit, like the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, the traditional villages of Achlada, Fodele, Rogdia and Anogia up to the highest mountain of Crete Idi (also called “Ida” or “Psiloritis” – 2.456m high).
